ZINEDINE ZIDANE 2012

MADRID: Zinedine Zidane, who has been tipped to one day manage France, will soon begin training to be a coach while he works at Real Madrid’s youth academy, the Spanish club said Monday.
“Zinedine Zidane will shortly begin training to be a coach whilst at the same time coaching Real Madrid’s youth academy,” the club said in a statement posted on their website.
The 40-year-old, who played for Real between 2001 and his retirement in 2006 and who has since last year been working as the club’s sporting director, will finish his team management qualification this year, the statement added.
“That will allow him to formalise his knowledge and training which will enable him to fulfil an aspiration that he made public in the press conference in which he announced his retirement as a player in April 2006: to work with Real Madrid’s youth academy,” it said.
The three-time World Player of the Year, whose 17-year-old son Enzo is a member of the Real academy, is studying a diploma in sports management in Limoges in south-western France.
Zidane holds legendary status in France as a member of the national teams that won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000.
Earlier this month the president of the French Football Federation, Noel Le Graet, said Zidane is a contender to one day manage Les Bleus. – AFP

BADMINTON OLYMPIC 2012.MALAYSIA Kien Keat and Boon Heong through to the quarter-finals

A breeze: Malaysia’s Koo Kien Keat (left) and Tan Boon Heong easily beat America’s Howard Bach and Tony Gunawan in their Group D match Sunday.

Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong are through to the men’s doubles quarter-finals of the Olympics badminton competition.
They defeated Howard Bach and Tony Gunawan of the United States 21-12, 21-14 in 25 minutes to confirm their berth from Group D, with a match in hand.
They will play world number two Chung Jae-sung and Lee Yong-dae of South Korea tomorrow to determine the group winners.
The Malaysians had to wait for almost 40 minutes before their game started as the schedule was running late.
They made an explosive start to race to a 9-0 lead before conceding the first point and took just 11 minutes to wrap up the first game at 21-12.
The second game was more hotly contested with Gunawan and Howard fighting hard to force the rubber.
Once again, the Malaysians had the lead from the start. They took 14 minutes to win 21-14 for their third career victory over their opponents.
The last time the two pairs met was at the 2009 BWF World Championship when the Malaysians took three sets to beat the American duo.
Their only other meeting was also in 2009, at the Hong Kong Super Series, which was a straight games win for the Malaysians.
Kien Keat said they were looking forward to the quarter-finals.
“Our next match isn’t that crucial but we will still go all out to win it. We want to keep up the winning momentum so our confidence level stays high,” he said.
“It was a little easier today but then our game plan was to keep attacking.”

Torres, who has had his share of ups and downs since leaving Liverpool for a British record fee of 50 million pounds ($78.57 million) in January 2011, said he was looking forward to taking on the pressure of leading the line for the European champions.
"I like the responsibility and it’s a thing I’ve been doing all my life," the 28-year-old told the club’s website (www.chelseafc.com) on Saturday.
"Didier did everything for this club, scoring the winning goal in the Champions League was an inspiration for us," added Torres, who was on target in Spain’s 4-0 victory over Italy in the final of Euro 2012 at the start of this month.
"Our relationship was great and I was talking to him when he decided to leave. He wished me all the best and hopefully one day, Chelsea fans will remember me as they are going to remember him."
Chelsea play their first game of the Premier League season at Wigan Athletic on August 19.
